My Recent Obsession With Anthony’s Pizza

So pizza is generally a good thing, but sometimes you have to have a specific sort of pizza. Lately, I’ve wanted big flat floppy pizza. My primary experience with big fat floppy pizza is from Vitos back in Richmond, which was cheap and satisfying – it was tasty for a college student but as it’s been awhile since I’ve eaten there, who knows how good it actually was. My other big fat floppy pizza experience has been random slices from Sbarro, which are tasty enough for mall food, but nothing too exciting.

So, after a disappointing encounter with some stale Papa John’s, I decided to suck it up and look for a pizza place. I found Anthony’s Pizza, conveniently located in walking distance of where I live. According to their map, they’re located all over the Denver metro area, and nowhere else.

First off, I like how the cheese slice I got looks rather similar to the cheese slice on their home page.

Albeit, the cheese on mine is a wee bit sparser, but maybe the one photographed for their home page is extra cheese. I just really hate places where their product doesn’t much resemble their advertising.

Anyhow, this floppy pizza has satisfied my floppy pizza needs greatly. It’s super thin and I can fold it up, it’s cheesetastic, and a single slice makes a decent meal without making you super full. I’ve been a purist and have only gotten cheese so far, but I had the opportunity to witness a green pepper and mushroom slice, and hoo boy do they pile those toppings on!

One thing I should mention is the reason I’ve been calling this big flat floppy pizza. It’s NY Style pizza, but I don’t think I’ve ever had NY Style pizza before, so I don’t feel comfortable judging it on that criteria. I’ve never been to NYC, except for driving through it once when I was 5 or so, getting lightly rear-ended by a driver who immediately drove off, and henceforth referring to it as “New Yuck” for the next few years. In any case, I’m not sure what good NY Style pizza tastes like, so I have no clue if Anthony’s Pizza is in any way “authentic.” All I know is that it is incredibly satisfying when you really want some carbs and cheese!
