The Dangers of Impulse Donuts

Posted on: September 20, 2009

So it’s been a week since I’ve last posted. Sometimes I black out a bit on these things. I’ve been stuck on a bit of a sugar bender these last several day. And, as usual I suppose, I’ll blame the donuts.

Donuts!

It all happened when we wandered into Safeway one fateful evening. Or perhaps I should be referring to it as “Dangerway”. See, I have this weakness for assorted donuts. Especially discounted assorted donuts. It’s like my mind sees the price, then sees all the shiny colors, and it’s overload. Mind shuts down, stomach takes over, and 30 minutes later I’m hunched over this box on the kitchen counter, in the dark, drooling glaze on myself, with crumbs all over the place and no clue how I lost that last half-hour. The first one to go was the sprinkles. And, incidentally, the box might not have even been purchased had it not been for those sprinkle donuts plus that single pink one. It’s kinda like when crows see shiny things. Incidentally, I suffer a similar weakness for those sugar cookies with the pink and blue glowing frosting they sell in grocery store bakeries. It gets really bad in late June, when the fourth of July sugar cookies sprout up everywhere, all red, white, and blue and covered in little star sprinkles. Every sugary stomachache I get means I love Freedom just that much more.
