My Big Fat Hippie Breakfast

Posted on: August 7, 2009

So I go through these breakfast phases. Like, for awhile I’ll be really into eating cereal. And then all of the sudden, I’ll just have no stomach for it, and start eating bananas every day. Then I’ll suddenly get really sick of bananas and switch to something else. Then at some point I’ll inevitably be sick of anything even vaguely breakfast-related, and start eating baked beans and leftover pizza for breakfast. After the inevitable indigestion and diarrhea that erupts from this (pun definitely intended), I’ll start the cycle anew.

In any case, I’ve been obsessively eating a new breakfast item lately. I refer to it as ‘pile of health’, or ‘hippie breakfast’, depending on how saucy I’m feeling that morning. This breakfast entree contains more nutrients then probably any other breakfast combination that I’ve really eaten before. And it is this:

And here’s the ingredients: Fill bowl about 1/3 with Cheerio-like cereal; this particular bowl is using the Kashi version, which contains little heart shapes. Nothing starts your day like processed wheat, corn and oat product shaped like hearts. Then I dump on some oats, pecans, fruit (blueberries here, though raisins work excellent as well), cinnamon, and finally a large glob of yogurt. I mix it all together, and it looks really gross. It tastes pretty good, though! Plus, it is totally excellent for fueling you through your morning and all that good stuff.
